Interview with Carlo Leggieri – A journey through photography

Can you introduce yourself and tell us about your journey as a photographer? How did you come to choose this profession ?

My name is Carlo (@petusky), and I live in Italy, near Milan, a city I love. I've been passionate about photography since childhood. For many years, I focused on landscape photography in all its forms—mountain, urban, and countryside landscapes. Then, around the age of 30-35, I started getting interested in portrait photography. A chance encounter, through my main job as an intensive care doctor, led me to meet a fashion photographer who introduced me to portrait photography. My work is particularly influenced by fashion photography, with an emphasis on celebrating beauty, especially feminine beauty. I love beauty. Here in Italy, we're surrounded by history and artistic beauty, each with its own unique characteristics depending on the region. People are always searching for beauty, and like them, I draw inspiration from everything around me. Landscapes, whether urban or natural, change with the seasons and locations, serving as a backdrop for my images and giving them a unique character, especially when shooting outdoors.

What type of photography excites you the most ? (Fashion, portrait, documentary, etc.)

Portrait photography is my favorite, whether in the studio or on fashion shoots. I always try to highlight and enhance the beauty of the people I photograph.

What are the biggest changes you've seen in the world of photography in recent years ?

Over the past few years, there's been a huge increase in the number of images being produced and viewed. The quality of photography—both from professionals and amateurs—has improved significantly. Photography has become more accessible, allowing many photographers to express themselves and share their work with a wider audience, thanks to social media. This growing level of skill pushes everyone to improve, which is great for photography as a whole. Advances in technology have also allowed photographers to focus more on the subject, composition, and framing, while making the technical aspects less of a challenge. However, it's still important to understand the technical side of photography.

What's your favorite project, the one that has had the biggest impact on your career ?

I don't have one specific project or job that I love the most, but there are certain works I feel more emotionally attached to. Each project has helped me grow and added another piece to the evolution of my photography style.

What's your dream or goal for the future, and where do you see yourself in five years ?

I have no idea where I'll be in five years, but I just want to keep growing, exploring new creative directions, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
